Steve: Just when we think it's finally finished, someone else contacts us about the hummingbird photos. They've circulated the globe and Abigail gets emails from all over the world. For those who haven't seen them or heard the story, you can see it here. / ~Sam

I don't think those hummingbirds would land on just anyones hand. They must be able to sense, as do the rest of us reading this forum, that Abigail is a special person.

SamW: You are right. Those little tiny things sure do eat ALOT!

Everyone else who commented: Thank you for your nice comments. I'm really glad you enjoyed the pics. If we are able to 'call em up' this year, we will shoot some video.

Cheers and Happy Fourth to All! :) :) :)

Abagail..Last year I got some help from a neighbor to attract humming birds. She came down to my yard and planted a red flower called Bee Balms. I also planted some red trumpet vines out near the road...they won't mature for another year or two. I really do enjoy watching them. There are two good websites I would like to share with you:
birdzilla.com
hummingbirds.net
Both of those are devoted to humming birds. The best humming bird feeders are made by Perky Pets..they have the bee guards. Living out here by the Bull Run River, in the woods I have a wide variety of birds that come on the property. Once in while we are able to spot a bald eagle.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY EVERYONE!

Abigail, I have one photo here somewhere of my two feeders and there are 35 hummers in the picture. Some were trying to feed over the shoulders of perched birds. Boy do they like that sugar!!

By the way, Abigail was the name of the standup bass I used to have in Kodiak. A banjo playing friend used to come over and we did a trio with Wilma on the autoharp. Long long ago in a life far far away!!!

Here's a hummingbird, part of a project I just finished.

The bird is more or less life sized; the section shown in the photo is maybe 30" wide; it's one of two panels 5'3" high and 3'6" wide.

What is it on? What are the panels for?
A pair of fountains in niches flanking the entry of a home. In this photo you can kinda see the hummingbird in the upper right. In the font (lower section, below the foliage panel) are two hobo nickel faces (in 8" square tracery panels). The water will flow through their mouths.

I've also attached a photo of one of the two font bases, so you can see my hobo nickel work.

In the winter he is thinking of replacing the water with something which won't freeze, like vodka, so that they can be used all year round. :)
