…of the first Safari Club Intl Big Five rifle from circa 1982-3? I can find plenty of shots of the 5th because it sold at auction a couple years ago, but not the first.

The first was also built by David Miller, on a 1909 Argentine square bridge Mauser in .458 Win, stocked with an unbelievable piece of Bastogne.

Lynton McKenzie did the engraving and that’s what I’d like a few pics of. A client was asking about selectively greying scroll and I’d like to show him the work on that rifle.

It was featured in many books and magazines years ago. Could somebody please snap a few good phone pix and email them to me at mitch@mrmengraving.com ? Thx in advance!

Thanks, Roger, but that’s the 5th rifle in the series, I’m looking for the 1st. It was also a Miller & McKenzie collaboration, but on a Mauser with French greyed scroll and elephants on the floorplate.

C’mon! Nobody has a stack of 40 years worth of American Rifleman or Rifle or Guns & Ammo? Maybe a 1982-3 Gun Digest? That rifle was in everything back then.

I think I may have that 40 year old stack of American Rifleman. Unfortunately I think they're behind my 52 years stack of National Geographic so it may take me a while to get to them. Crap, just noticed that before the National Geos I have all the books I've been meaning to read since high school; although most of them I were supposed to read in high school. But hang tight, I'll get there.

American Rifleman, September 1982.

Picture of a picture. Not that great but that's what I've got.

I got zip in the Gun Digests.

THAT’S IT, ROGER, THANK YOU!!! That rifle was all over the gun press 40 yrs ago, but nowadays it seems like anything that happened before the internet never existed.
