Well Jeff, a "nippy 80" sounds good. I remember waking to 2 inches of ice covering every thing back in the mid 60's...and this was in Austin, TX, so your turn could be just around the corner.

Jeff,
I'll send you a big box of outside air as it was -34 F (-36 C) here this morning. But you have to return it with a box full of that "nippy" stuff !

Tom, My mom was hit with the same snow as you. School is out for a second day here and still about 350K without power. My husband's office is closed due to no power and many trees are still down. I just hope they can get a handle on it before the next storm this weekend or it will get even worse. C'est la vie. It's good not to have a long commute (to the shop)!

Tira,
I hope things get back to "normal" there - It would be beyond miserable here if not for having the power still on.
P.S. The new microscope is working like a real champ!

Well, here in the mountains of North Carolina ( okay, foothills to those out west!) I guess it could be considered spring, as it is only 20 degrees with a wind chill of 3. No ice and just a little snow, but heavy wind. Our place in Blowing Rock is 3700' elevation and just down the road from Appalachian Ski Lift. I feel for all of you battling these severe elements, and as for global warming, this has been the coldest winter we have experienced since moving back to NC 11 years ago.

Hi Tira.

It was great catching up with you and Rob in Vegas. We have the "Vegas night walk" officially scheduled for Monday night next year so hopefully you guys can stay an extra night and join us.:)

The worst I have seen is a hoare-frost down at Lake Tekapo a few years ago. That was spectacular but nothing like what you guys are getting.

Just to rub it in, it is mid summer down here. I'm in shorts, shirt sleeved shirt and sandals. :)

Stay warm and safe. It looks beautiful but deadly!!!

Cheers
Andrew

tira: the latest reports around here-- not more than 2-4" of new snow in the next 3 days-- but no temperatures to brag about. i think we all have seen the worst. it does seem these vorticies are more considerate of us, than the folks in your area.

"my Harley gave out of gas in Albany GA"

Ok, Fred, that fills in a lot of blanks for me, and nicely summarized, now I can picture your life a bit better. My Colorado time started in 1960, I came from Greenland via Iceland, to the Springs, and taught junior high math. It was my first exposure to the US, all was new to me, and I loved the adventure, people were friendly, and curious, it was a great experience, with ski-ing on the weekends, and rock climbing in the evenings.

Thank you for your kind remarks. I am still waiting for your mailing address to send you some cd's just in case you have a slow day?

Hello, Peter!

Mighty cold up there in B C, I would say. I have appreciated your photos, and emails, and feel I can imaging your spread, the views, the livestock, working with leather, as well as engraving, memories of my own river runs on the Fraser and Chilco, deep winter encounter with wolves, I have to get back up there some time.

best wishes

Rod

I don't know what you guys think shorts are. :)

Down here it is trousers with the legs cut off at mid thigh........... We call underwear undies and underwear that looks like shorts are called boxers.

Swimming trunks are called togs and can look like shorts or undies. Sometimes undies type togs are referred to as speedos. If you wear speedos that look like undies at the beach you are fine. If you wear them into town you'll get arrested as they look like undies.

See.....it's really simple :)

Cheers

I remember WALKING across the Guadalupe back then! 200' across!
During the '84 stock show ride to San Antone we put the horses back in the barn after our spilled beer started to form stalagmite ice sickles on our saddle horns. We were FORCED to JUST drink beer and PARTAEEEE!!!

George
PLEASE, send some of that cold, refreshing air, ASAP!!!
I am pleased to inform you that the ONLY thing we can send in return, is a LOT of hot air from Texas!
This year was an exceptionally good year, therefore with each order you will recieve, as an added bonus, all the B.S. you can handle!

Till then, just put another log on the fire!

I can report a total lack of mosquitoes in these parts.

-24 F this a.m. A gorgeous clear sky. I'll take the cold over an ice storm any day.

What tree

Not that far from Tira. No electricity, heat etc. for a week. they finally turned the electric on today. The inside of my house was 39 deg this morning. The neighbors tree decide it like my house and chimney. Something else to have fixed. Oh! did I mention it's supposed to snow some more. :):):)

I see a lot of extreme weathers on the news from all around the world. Over here we almost have the warmest winter ever.
It didn't freeze and no snow.
So we aren't complaining about the weather. But as the winter is not normal it could snow and freeze this summer.

Tbear, what a bummer. We have only lost power intermittently, but many people around us still are without power. The YMCA is doing a brisk business with showers and coffee (they have been gracious to the community). I hope the tree didn't do much damage!
