I was competing at the Reno rodeo in the late 80's and we went up to Virginia City one day and visited a shop I believe was called "Le Nouveux". They were good gun engravers and manufactured nice jewelry. What ever happened to these guys and who were they. P.S. Thanks Sam and everyone for this forum. We are far removed from other engravers and we cannot seem to get out of this shop to interact with others. This forum is priceless. I am in awe when I look at everyone's great work. I look forward to the pics. and tutorials. Thanks again!

Haraga~ It was actually called Le Nouveaux West. A gentleman by the name of Pete Schier owned the company. His previous company was called "Prairie Silver" out of Reno. He was a silversmith but did not engrave. During the first nine months I put in 25-30 hours a week helping him getting things startd. There was another silversmith-engraver there by the name of Hugh Weaver (supreme artist and designer in our field). Just as I was finishing up with getting things kick started, Pete started working with a gun engraver (hammer & chisel guy), I think his first name was Herb...not completely sure.

Best regards,
Greg Pauline

I was in Virginia City around 1995 and don't recall seeing a shop by that name, or any shop that did engraving for that matter. I could have missed it though, as I was busy looking through the "bordello" museum!

Thanks for the update Greg. Thanks for your buckle thread. It looks great. I am carving on one right now and I believe I will fight with these for the rest of my life. I would love to watch you carve someday. You are a man of many skills to be building buckles. Your web site looks good!

I worked with Hugh Weaver at silver state in 77, he still has one of my buckles he borrowed to study. If you see him ask him to send it to me,hehe.
