Hello bravo 20, glad to have you join in the fun. Best of luck on your engraving journey.
Please know that there is nothing you can't do with hammer and chisel and push engraving.
Just move to power engraving later, when you can make it pay off for you.
Might I suggest you put a general location in your bio.
Someone in your area may be able to give you some help and guidance.

Welcome to the engravers Cafe. Right off you have a great advantage over many beginners who post here, your age. Many beginners that we encounter are over 60 and have never done anything artistic in all that time. At 22 and with real passion to succeed you could set the world on fire. As John mentioned, put your location in your bio. It may help you get offers of personal assistance.

welcome to the university of all things graven. john b is spot on. the pencil is the first consideration. a .3 mechanical will serve well for the purpose. chisels, a triangular file is a great start for h & c. a hammer can be fashioned from a common engine valve. drawing, heat treating, sharpening, and a bit of tinkering. you're on your way.

Bravo 20, thank you for adding the NC location to your bio.
Lots of good engravers in that general area of the country.
Who knows, maybe someone close will reach out to help you get started.
Keep reading, and post questions on the Cafe. There is help here.

There you go , bravo 20.
After posting your location a fellow NC engraver reached out to you.
Thank you Archie.

John, like Archie, I also reached out to Bravo20 and discovered we live less than 50 miles from each other. We'll be getting together when the government turns us loose.

Good man! Way to go. Important for new members to post their general location in their bio.
Thank you for helping a young man with a desire to gain some experience in engraving.
I hope you both find your future meeting enjoyable and that he appreciates your experience, friendship and guidance.
