Hello Kurt, it has been about 26 years ago we met at the Houston gun show, you were an inspiration then and more so now. That looks great, but which came first the engraved ram or the gold inlay back ground?

Hi Ed,

The gold comes first.

1. Layout

2. Cut the pattern

3. Releive background

4. Serrate background to hold in the 24K wire

5. Inlay wire

6. File flat

7. Polish

8. Detail the subject

You have to engrave the piece without marring the the polished gold. Use a lot of tape to keep metal chips, burrs, and of course your hands from dragging over the gold.

That's just about it.
