I had a Mac IIsi years ago, and one of the original macs before that. Then I was forced into PC use because I was doing technical writing for a number of companies that were PC users. Over the years, I have had nothing but grief from PCs, and finally bit the bullet and got a Mac Pro yesterday. What a wonderful machine! I can see lots of new doors opening!

Don, congratulations on your Mac purchase. Computer life is just sweeter and easier via Mac. I have the one before yours - the Power Mac G5. I put 2.5 gigs of ram in mine and it will load dozens of Canon raw photo files effortlessly. The Mac Pro is even better and faster.

We have the Apple Airport Extreme wireless router in our home, and all computers - pc's and macs, laptops and desktops - operate wirelessly (except for my desktop Mac that's connected to it). All computers share one printer that's connected to the Airport without hassle. And now we're iPod crazy around here. Everything runs and works flawlessly together.

William: Macs are fast, rock solid, very powerful, simple, extremely well built, and not prone to viruses or other PC maladies. The operating system is elegant and robust, as is software written for Macs. Macs are designed for people doing visual type work, be it graphics design, photography, audio recording, or video editing. Are they perfect? No. I had to replace the power supply in mine shortly after I bought it. Once the defective power supply was changed it has run beautifully.

I've owned PC's for years and enjoyed them. I doubt I'll ever go back after my Mac experience though. Don, do you do any Photoshop work? / ~Sam

William: Like Don my first computer was a Mac II Si and it is far easier to use than a PC.
My only reason for switching to Pc was that I used them at work and often took work home to work on in the evening. My wife works in the Specialty Advertizing Industry and the entire Graphic Arts Department where she works with Macs. I have had several Pc's and am considering a Mac when I upgrade.

My iMac has sure spoiled me. I love the no periferal aspect of it. That makes it the perfect workbench computer. Mine sets right on my bench along with another monitor (also hooked to the mac) so I can spread things out and not lose them.

It did take me about a day to adapt to a different opperating system but it was no big deal. I think he Mac OSX that I am running is a lot more intuative than windows. And i have yet to see the "blue screen of death"

I'll never go back.

Those iMacs are so cool. I was looking at them in an Apple store in CompUSA. The 24" one is KILLER. I fell in love with the 30" Apple widescreen monitor while I was there. It's so big it's ridiculous, but I'd love to have it!

Ray and Don: The apple Mighty Mouse is a royal pain to clean if the scroll wheel starts acting cranky, but I found a site that shows how to disassemble it. I had to fix mine and now it's working perfectly. ~Sam

I don't use the mac mouse. I have a big wacam intuos tablet that came with a wireless mouse and I like that mouse better than any other I have tried. It has side buttons on it like pinball machine flippers. I have them set as back and forward buttons when browsing. So much easier than taking the curser up top hit the back button. It has also been very reliable There is nothing to clean so nothing gets clogged up.

Abigail and I use (and love) Google Calendar. We can access it from anywhere, and have different calendars for appointments, birthdays, students, travel, music gigs, etc. It also syncs flawlessly with Mac's iCal application, and iCal syncs with the iPods. Very handy.

We're such nerds.

Sam, Sam, Sam. Be strong. We don't need it. The children need shoes.
Love,

Oh well I'm a PC lover/hater. I'll never change. I like dysfunctions in my life. It gives me a feeling of life’s worth. A friend of mine that’s a school teacher we've been going round and round on this for probable 15 years. I don't see him often anymore, but when I do the first thing he says is Hi Mike, did you get a Mac yet.

I'll probably never get a Mac but I think I'm going to buy some of their stock today:) The Ipod, Iphone, I this and that is making that company very wealthy.
Mike
