Got the shading done today.
One thing that helped was the fact that I mentioned to the ever-indulgent wife that it was hard to hold so she decided we should go ahead and get my 'shop' microwave. Got the smallest, cheapest one they sell at Wal-Mart ($34) but had to pay $39 at K-Mart because all of the Wal-Marts near me were out of the darn thing. So much easier to be able to heat up some ThermoLoc there by my bench and make a holder for things!
I used some wax to darken one half for the pictures and decided that the ever-indulgent wife was right - in real life it looks better bright.
For these pictures I put my small light tent on my light box. Still hard to get a good shot of something that shiny, but much easier than without the tent.
