Like a lot of others involved in the gun business I work in relative isolation so this was new to me.
Appearantly the BATF is holding forth the position that anyone involved in gun work, i.e.
Gunsmith, restocking, refinishing or ENGRAVING is required to have a Manufacturing license
instead of the regular FFL. This is a relatively expensive proposition. I would urge those members
who, like myself, weren't aware of this to go to the NRA website www.nraila.org and
read up on the situation.

Brian, they have been trying to do this for a long time. They will keep trying until they succeed or we the people make them sit down and shut up and/or put them ALLout of power. They also will try to come in the back door by passing peripheral legislation and making it too expensive to afford or too red tape to be worth it. Why do you think they are doing this now? If they don't get it done before the elections, and Republicans win the elections, they will lose a chance for some time, but they will continue behind the scenes. It is not the time to be lax in your vigilence. Demand that your politicians honor the Constitution, and let them know that there is a big price to pay if they don't, no ifs, ands, or butts. It is time to send the politicians an undoubtable message. This isn't about liscences so much, anyway. They want our guns. And I am not sure I even trust the republicans, but it is up to Americans, and people who know what that means to retain American principals, not socialist, or communist, because they want to live under Dictators (someone that will take care of them and tell them what to do). The truth is if we don't want to govern ourselves, we will be governed. There is a great segment of our American population that is dragging us down, challenging our faith, and trying to take that away too. That is what that system of Government does.

Everyone seems to get distracted by all of the baloney (the agenda of the media with the power to show us and tell us what they want us to hear, to continuosly expound on criseses) Keep close attention, because men who try to rule by spreading fear (Satan's tools) and seduction (which works about as good) are dangerous to your freedoms. They will appeal to the spirits of greed, lazyness, apathy, low self esteem, and selfish interest to those who are susceptable to retain their power. That is really what this political battle is actually about. If you are not subject to any of those things, they cannot bend and break you...even by sticking a gun in your face.....Watch closely, and watch who you vote for............Let's don't let them get away with it. If they do, it won't be the government's fault. It will be ours...........and it wil be too late, until that spirit of freedom rises again and it will demand blood to get it back.

Hold on dearly to the things that you know to be true.....................

Jesus was an advocate of free choice, and the beginning of the American concept. The constitution was the outgrowth of that concept. Of course we will lose it if we do not think critically about what is right and what is wrong. Watch cosely!!...........Opinions and idiology don't count. Truth and facts count.

Thanks for the heads up Brian, and it is a shame to have to talk about politics on this wonderful forum, but since you brought it up, I was compelled by the spirit of truth as you were, to speak up. It does effect our business however,......and our lives..............and ask Isreal if you don 't see the importance or urgency of it, and don't forget History. Prevention is always better than the cure, or we will suffer the consequences of deaf, dumb, and blindness. Me retaining my guns is not about fear, it is about rights and freedom, and the maintenance of those rights only if need be. Otherwise they are just tools. I know you already know this, but I had to speak my thoughts. Your concern is obvious to me, and to let you know that I am concerned too.

Hmmmmm.....
For what it's worth, an ATF agent was here conducting an audit recently, and he didn't mention a thing about acquiring a manufacturing license....and he does know that I mostly engrave guns, not sell them.

well put ron,we all must stay on guard. dont expect miracles or someone coming to your rescue. some time back, they passed the domestic violence act, then made it rettroactive back to adam and eve,not even my freinf who was a cop with a bad marriage behind him at the time, was allowed to have a weapon. i thought the n.r.a. would come to his rescue,as this was totally against the constitution, and bill of rights amendment 5, but no one stepped forward. dont think that the battle is ever won or you have equal justice that you will come out on top. if the politicans arent happy with things here, let them head to mexico as illegal aliens ,and work there agenda down there. thats my 3 pennies worth.

This April 2008 issue of the American Rifleman has a story and article about this starting on page 14.
On page 16 is an article about H.R 4900, a House Bill seeking to reform this problem.
They ask you to call 202-224-3121 and ask your representative to co-sponsor H.R 4900.
You can also find more about this at www.nraila.org

Best regards, John B.

Thanks you are correct and I support your comments 100%!, This is the reason I decided that it was too much of a hassel to get the FFL. Dave

Hopefully the current case before the Supreme Court will get a favorable rulling. So far it looks to have a majority to rule in favor of the 2nd ammendment to be an 'individual right'. It ain't a done deal though. We will know by July. Please, God, don't let them do otherwise.
It is important to not only vote in the major elections, but to know who to vote for in city, county and state, too. All polititions start at the lower levels and work their way up the chain.

Ditto that Gail, your observations are right on. Not only do we need to pay attention to the encroachment of government at the federal level, but they are getting increasingly more invasive at the local level. Our property rights are dwindling. "city ordances" etc.

We need to remind our "leaders" to punish the guilty and leave the innocent alone. Here are some words spoken by a very famous person. "you pass laws to grivious to bear".............. and you don't change things by passing laws. You change things by powerful reasoning and teaching.

Dave, there are a lot of other things you can engrave also, right?

Richard, I have been a member of the NRA most of my life until I got the distinct feeling that they were most interested in getting donations and bugging you to death for membership and money. I wrote them a letter and told them when I saw them really interested in my rights, I would re-join. Don't get me wrong however, I think the NRA has devfinately helped, but somtimes you have to get their attention. I suggested some things I thought were important in protecting our rights and one of them would be to educate the youth (this was some time back) and to instigate some laws that would do some good, to catch the Constitution violaters, the biggest criminals of all who won't obey the supreme law of the land and are trying to subvert it. We need some teeth to go after those violaters with, Until we do that, it is going to be a constant drain on your wallet, your patience, and a political football, and this battle will never be won. You win battles with overwhleming force, not little bity insignificant battles. The politicians like the issue for election purposes on both sides, but the NRA has the power of the people behind it, so they are afraid to come after our guns outright. It will be drip, drip, drip, drip........If you get my meaning, but it is really up to us. Speak out! or at least until they take that from us too. "political correctness"?..............media cultural peer pressure?..............surge and attack on anything critisizing? ........acidemic know it alls who want the issues to manipulate us with, but don't want any slutions. That is political hay, fodder for them to divide us. Where do you think all of this is leading?

Forward!!

RON, they want unlimited power, that means we the people must be disarmed first. they will attempt to alter laws to make us more submissive, the medias AND EDUCATIONAL AREAS, WILL "DUMB US DOWN", and by what i see by the loss of jobs nowdays, the u.s.a. will acheive third-world status soon, to make us all equal in their global economy. i believe bush the elder called it, "THE NEW WORLD ORDER". now, to get to the bottom of things and make changes, you have to start at the top to get to the bottom, just dont have the foundations in my head on how to remedy things. we need to find good ,articulate people like you RON,to lead the charge, i think this little start could help make the difference. i do know one thing for certain, we are running out of time. i joined the N.R.A. for years, but like you, i was smart enough to see my money going to support salaries and not back up the bill-of-rights or our constitution, they kept using "SCARE TACTICS" LIKE THEY WILL GET YOUR GUNS,to obtain memberships. they sounded like our make believe scare tactics the government kept tossing out about terrorism, and amthrax, which i think is a big farce. the only terrorist i see are in wasington,d.c., thats what we have to watch out for, people whom dont follow the laws that they swore to defend, but, want you to adhere to them or face jail. thanks RON,for speaking out... theses thoughts of ours are an on-going topic across America, not just here. while in school, i was told, if a law was unconstitutional,it was null and void. now days, some laws fly on the "color of law", they are unconstitutional but it sits like a real law and no one has the courage to point out the difference. our forefathers had much more to lose in 1775,homes,life, and honor. i thank god they had enough honer to see them thru their ordeal. i know, today, we are not a nation of cowards,to think that, would be to misjudge us. ill say no more.

My New Year's resolution in 2005 was to Re Elect No One. I'm stickin' to it! The Polititians, Media, and Corporations try to keep us all afraid of Something, whether it be Terrorists (Politions), Getting Sick (Corporations), or Racism (Media). We are being played like checkers on a board.

My heart goes out to you and hope you will be able to defend your rights. We have lost ours in South Africa. Politicians do not trust logical thinking law abiding citizens with guns to defend their rights and households, cause they have an ulterior dark, secretive motive. Never, Never give up. Fight this with everything you got. Cause if you loose it. It is even more difficult to try and get back.

But gunowners are fighting a much bigger enemy with an enormous amount of cash. The EU gave more than $22million!!!! to "small arms control" (read anti-gun) in Southern Africa over the last seven years.

Ron, I salute your clear thinking.

God help America.
