Dear Friends,
After i went to Chris's Class of Jewelry engraving last week in Belgium I founded out that my microscope is too much magnifying. I have a WILD Heerbrugg M3 made in Swiss. A good one but it goes from 6,4 - 16- 40.
Far too much. As soon i have an object say a knive b.e. it runs out of my view all the time. I can't engrave longer lines or a bigger scroll.
I need problably an 0,5 objective lens. Can anybody say i am right with that?
If i cant find a lens like that i have to sell the microscoop.
May be someone can help me.
greeting, Johan de Champs , the Netherlands

Johan,
Don't give up yet. You are right about the objective lense. You can even get them in .3 objective magnification. Meiji for one sells them and can be found on the internet. Take the time to measure the opening at the objective end of the microscope. Post this diameter. In the mean time I'll measure my .3 objective lens which, of course, will be the same as the .5. If the threads happen to be the same great, but if not maybe the lense could be epoxied into place. Maybe even a little machine work would be necessary. I'll help where I can.
Regards, Glenn

I paid $100.00 US for my objective lense.

my guesser doesn't always work, but- by your description i'm guessing that your scope is not a "zoomer". a binocular stereo zoom scope will travel smoothly thruout its' lowest to the highest power- smoothly. with no break in the image. when you turn the knob the image grows progressively larger or smaller. there would be no click or detent stops. adding the .5 objective will cut your power, but increase your working distance under the scope. this can be corrected by simply adding a pair of more powerful eye pieces. hope this helps a bit. it is normal to have to shift the vise or item to effectively cut the entire line. the entire process becomes a coordinated ballet of the hands and possibly your feet. in my case i add vocals called profanity or cussing! this does take a deal of practice to acclimate to this way of doing things. practice on junk for awhile. that way when you skrew up, you aint ruining anything. you most certainly will come to love this way of doing things. hay, i did without the scope for over 30 years. it was a huge readjustment for me. but i'm glad to be making the adjustment. as we speak, i'm still getting used to this new way. you can e-mail me at
monk45@verizon.net if you like good luck

Hi Johan,
My .5 Objective lense has a Collar around it with 3 screws on the side, that clamps onto to bottom Collar of the scope, no internal thread.
I bought it Local, but I believe it comes from germany, It hasn't got a name on it so I can't Tell, Will phone the Guy I bought it from, and let Yo Know.

Hi,
Thanks already for your help. I found this site:http://www.microscope-store.com/2300-series-barlow-lens-p-219.html
But i dont know if it fits in mine. I keep on searching because i really need it . Ofcourse i know you always have to move the vise a bit so now and then. But in my case i cant do a bit bigger than a ring or something. A practise plate drive you nuts under my miscroscoop with this lens.
Hope someone will find some thing for me.
greetings, Johan

lordie bee, there's got to be a few places on ebay where you can get a compatible lens. check out their site for scopes, there's got to be half a ton of that stuff out there. when i went bidding on scopes, i only bid on the ones that included the .5 lens in the sale. keep at it, they are available. good luck.:D

The lens will give you about twice the work distance. Do you have a turntable if not that will help keep things in the field of view when working.

Thanks, I had already contact with Rob. And with Leica aswell. Leica didnt answer yet so i wrote again. And the ones Rob have will not really fit but maybe we find a solution. Otherwise i sell my scope and will buy a zoom one from Rob. Maybe not a real brand Sunny factory in China ( they made the Olympus SZ in the past Rob told me so it will be ok for me), but i guess it is ok for engraving. He told me that he wasnt reall a big fan of Meji eighter because he have a couple of scope heads there from Meji for repair with broken zoom parts.
But i go holiday to Spain for 1 month by next friday. Otherwise i look there.
greetings Johan

Johan sure am sorry to hear about all of your troubles. I wish we all could have come up with one for you but they look like they are few and far between.
