Modified brian powley fixture

A little while back Brian Powley posted his modified fixture and someone made a comment about only the Y axis, which is something I spotted when I first looked at the post. Here is my version with the variable X now applied. Hope this will benefit some of you who need something along these lines



Brief explanation. The spring loaded plunger indexes into the holes on the underside with 10deg increments. By moving the whole unit in the Y direction as required pulling the plunger allows rotation to bring X axis into play. Sorry Brian for pinching half your idea and adding a little just seemed that it would do a little more and be a little more flexible. Dimensions on the one I've made are as follows: 1" sq aluminium bar. disc is 110mm x 12 mm thick. Plungers and shoulder bolt purchased from Ebay. And a special note of thanks to my friend Paul for all his hard work in machining this up.

This is a fixture I used to make and sell. Many people bought them and use them. I gave one to Sam and Scott P. Have no idea if either tried them. I know that many of the people who bought them at the engrave-ins have let me know that they think they work great. I use mine every day for almost all my work. Any thing flat they work great and have made some blocks that attach to the fixture plate for belt buckles. Only people who actually saw them work ever bought them so I quit making them. Fred thanks for the link I hadn't seen your system but can see how effective it is.
I have only taken brians mod and added the rotation with the spring plunger so as to add that x factor this is just one for myself and to let others make up their minds and see if it helps them.

so what's it do?

Mitch it works as follows the square bar is held in vice jaws by moving it one way or the other moves the centre of rotation under the scope then if you want to work left or right of that axis pull the spring plunger and rotate in 10 deg steps so no need to move the vice does that make sense.

I'm a bit confused myself. I take it that this is for a vise that is NOT on a turntable or one that can be easily moved. Doesn't the vise itself turn?

Doc it can be used on a standard vice or a non rotating if using a turntable if you have a look at brians original post this just gives a legs to his way of using his I think he said his top plate was GRS this is just a rotating themoloc holder which can can be locked in the vice it may not suit everyone i just made it for myself as i do lots of small flat items as yet I have to use it and see it maybe that its a pain but I also have a weakness for tool porn :biggrin:
