How would you monogram a name like Max Wayne McGilbert? Do you ignore the Mc? Something like mGw ? I'm new to monograms and not sure how this is traditionally done.

Being a Van Dyke I checked into it. The two letters would be intertwined - in my case with the V coming over the D. For yours the M would go over the G.

Then again, it's McGilbert so I could be completely wrong.

interesting... I was thinking something like that. It was the lowercase c that was throwing me off. thanks for the input. I looked online and couldn't find any Mc monograms.

My thoughts would be M McG W if placed in a circle or diamond shape where the outer letters are reduced in size and the emphasis is placed on the surname initials. If the upper case letters are uniform in size the letters would read M W McG.

my instinct would be to draw variations and let your client choose. some of this kind of stuff doesn't fit well with those without knowledge of tradition. even with knowledge of such, that's no guarantee the recipient will like it. i like to please people, even if it's wrong !!
