Need help (inkjet)

My inkjet printer is done!! Suggestions as to which inkjet is best for transfer. What is most commonly used? What to stay away from?

Go to your local office supply, get a test copy from each inkjet of interest, and then come back and try a piece of each test print with your favorite transfer method(s) to see which you like best.

Better take your own transparencies to the office store for samples if you want to use use the solution and burnish method.
IF you were talking laser printers/acetone store paper copies will suffice.

Thanks John--good catch. I must have been brain dead to leave off that caveat about taking with you any printing substrate that you use other than plain paper.

HP Envy 5660 and #62 ink

I have had 4 or 5 HP inkjet printers and all of them worked great if you use genuine HP ink. The cheap refills will not work well at all.

Yes, my ink jet worked well until it quit. I have never used anything but HP ink. What number was the ink you were using? I have checked with Office Depot and Staples. They still carry the inks but the printers that use 61 & 62 inks are no longer in their stores. I don't think they are going to be printers that use those inks any longer. I did search for HP Desk Jet 2752 and ENVY 5660. They are no longer in the major stores but there are a few on ebay and etsy. Most likely old stock. The 2752 was priced at $158 and every search for 5660 gave me an alternative printer that used 67 ink. I know 67 ink doesn't work, I've tried it. Who knows what will happen when other printers begin to fail. I will be able to get along without my ink jet.

Another question should be are there other brands of ink jet printers that make good transfers. It makes it so much easier to get good position.

My Hp Envy 5660 I got off Amazon. When you look at them there go through a page or two before you find one with a decent prize around a $100. The first page are all expensive. Also when you get it they will offer a deal on the HP #62 ink where they’ll send some monthly ect which is great because if you get a few months worth it should last many years if the printer is only being used for transfers. at least that would be for myself. Maybe I should use transfers more often lol. Cheers

I don't suppose anyone ever thought of signing on to HP's website and using their customer support to ask what current model printers use pigment based ink.

I just chatted with HP support. Their recommendation for an AIO that prints with black pigment ink is HP Envy PRO 6455. This printer uses HP67 ink. I need to buy an AIO since mine just died, would love to get more current suggestions. Thanks everyone

I am using a HP Envoy 5540. I only have one of the two ink cartridges installed. It doesn’t get much use. It requires a No. 62 ink cartridge. This is a “color-fast” ink. Claria ink printers will not work. Because this printer is used infrequently, seems like every time I try to use it I get line skips, requiring repeated attempts to clean the ink cartridge. I have started removing the ink cartridge after every use and using Scotch tape to cover the business end of the cartridge to prevent it from drying out. Other than that, it works well for the purpose of making transfers. It is only one of several printers under my roof.

I have used an HP printer that uses #67 ink and it didn't work. It would not transfer. I cannot say which printer it was. It was very similar to my HP 5540. It looked very much like it. Next time I go to an office supply I'll take some things to test it for transfer.

I have another hp printer for my kids school work ect and it has hp 67 ink and it does not work. But like I said above 62 definitely works and what I went with after extensive research.

Well HP may suggest 67 ink but a second person has said it does not work.

I just searched Walmart online. HP inkjet 2752 doesn't come up. 2752 must be old stock and they are marked down. That is what Walmart does. They will keep marking items down at the end of the season or in this case that they are no longer manufactured. They will keep lowering the prices until they sell.

To my understanding, quality inkjet transfers have more to do with the transparency and original ink being used. I have made successful transfers onto 3M brand (CG3460) transparencies using original HP ink # 61; #62; #63 and #96 (black only) and Zinser Bullseye Shellac & BIN Primer. Please see attached for further detail of mix and example of transfers done.
