My friend you will have to anneal the blade then engrave and then heat treat the blade again, I don’t have the right temp settings for annealing but it should be in the region of 820 deg "C" keep it there for about an hour and switch of the heat source and let it cool down over night and if it is still in the black heat condition let it cool down for a couple more hours until you can touch it by hand. Personally I would not do it for various reasons. if you would want more info don't hesitate to ask.
Mr. Hartzell, You're going to have to get it to 1650 and hold it for a couple of hours, then turn your oven off and let it slow cool. Check out this link for the Crucible Data Sheet for the steel, Good luck, Dwayne
