I got rid of my satellite TV so I've had lots of time to get a few smaller scrimshaw projects finished up

first up is a small skinning knife with a warthog tusk for a handle. I've had this knife for many years and scrimmed one side of the handle then a couple of years later did the other side of the handle. I didn't have a pattern so I had to free hand the second side. As a result they are not identical.

On the top of the handle I did a nude. She's 1" from the top of her head to the bottom of her heels and 3/8" tall. I had this image for a while but had problems transferring the image so I set it aside for a while until I got brave enough to complete the image. It's a challenge to put features on something this tiny. Her lips, for instance, are made up of 6 dots!

Underneath the handle I scrimmed the name of the fellow I gave the knife to. John rescued me when my transmission gave out on a narrow two lane road climbing a mountain outside of Silverton CO in the rain. He towed my truck and trailer up the mountain to a safe place to pull off, helped me unhook my trailer from the truck and back the truck into a safe place to await the tow truck and then hooked my trailer on to his rig and towed it 50 miles to Durango and parked it in the lot of the hotel I was staying at. And HE WOULDN'T TAKE ANYTHING FOR HIS TROUBLE!! I really liked this knife so I finished it and gave it to him.

Next is a ring. I fabricated a piece of ivory 3/8" x 1/2" with a rabbet all the way around one side so it would fit down tightly into the ring. On the ivory I engraved a copy of my family crest. The photos don't do it justice...

I think I've reached the limit of my capabilities engraving something so tiny.

This is a piece of mammoth Ivory I made into a pendant for a friend of mine. I'm working on a piece of silver which will lay over the top of this where the bale will attach.

Finally I've finished another pendant, this one made from ivory which was sliced across the tusk. The brown spot is where the nerve used to be. I tried to fill it with epoxy and ivory dust but it didn't come out as well as I'd hoped. One side has an image of an owl woman and the other side an image of a barred owl that was done from a photograph I took of a barred owl in a tree here on my property. It is about the size of a 1 1/4" oval.

comments, critiques or questions cheerfully entertained.

I like them all. That is an unusual handle on the skinner. It's obvious you have the art gene as well as scrim talent. I like the pendants with the related but artistic designs on opposite sides. You must have your scope set on max power to do the details on such tiny subjects.
Regards
Don

PS Maybe I should get rid of my cable TV and hit the bench more.

I think the term you use in that case is 'complimentary' - as in "A complimentary pattern is scrimmed on both sides."
