Nice detail on the turkey, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of Finland where my mother is from because of the birch trees in the background...

thanks jj. i am curious-- do you do the push graving whilst seated ? i have done a lot of black powder work while standing. i had to, as the guns were given to me assembled. now, i just work seated. if asked to do an assembled gun now, i'd pass on the job.

JJ Is that a Sears " Stevens" double? I'm asking because you said it wasn't a good metal to engrave? Was it because the Case was so deep?

monk,The hand push engraving is done while sitting, animals, birds & scenery, when engraving scrolls I stand over the work weather using H&C or power so my scrolls come out with out any flats or elbows. When I started it was H&C and I built a pedestal and mounted my vise so I could walk around the piece and cut a scroll in one past with stopping, never could understand why any engraver could work at stationery vise sitting or standing. There are four vise's set up in my shop to show student's different way to engrave in different positions J.J.D Smith when I received the gun there was no finish at all.
