Beautiful as always Phil. I really like the combination of sculpted and non-sculpted scroll.

The scroll on the breach end of the barrels brings to mind a question I have asked a few times before but never had anyone answer and that is...just how much or far down the barrel can they be engraved without taking the gun out of proof?

Phil, Beautiful work. the sculpting is just fabulous. Your work is so much to take in and study. Thanks for sharing another great gun. Someone is ordering an entire collection or a gun for each of a very close group. I bet their is a story we will never know, Fred

beautiful design and execution, thank you so much for sharing. As Riflesmith and Marinan said
a pleasure to look at and learn from.

I'm with Sam. Love the carving and engraving together.

And the selective gold background looks great. I remember the line work from another gun you engraved. Fantastic!! :)

Cheers

Sam, I don't think there are any rules about this, just common sense.

I thing one and a half inches is the limit for what looks good, some European engravers engrave as much as six inches or so, I think it looks terrible and way out of balance with the gun.

on a job this exquisite, how many drawings/ versions do you end up doing before the final design is chosen ? in plain words, this is just marvelous to my eye !

The more experience you get the less drawings you need, I draw around the areas to be engraved actual size and draw on these as a rough-up, once this is done I place a piece of tracing film over is and refine the lines.

Extraordinary work, Phil. A complex and fascinating design. Love the sculpting, shading, and everything about it!
