Penny-bo coin carving

As you can see wheat pennies make a good host coin to carve on..i carve about 25 penny -bo carvings a year..I gave penny carvings the name penny-bo about 4 years ago, i,m not sure what other carvers call a carved penny, but i quess a carved penny..

That's excellent Bill. You've really made it look like it came from the Mint that way. No tool marks anywhere. Beautiful job. ~Sam

Mike i smoothed so many fields down on coins i don,t really notice the fields being smooth until someone mention it..The field on the penny was done entirely by a #37 hand push graver with no heel and then sanded down with sanding sticks..
