BULINO – The Italian word for burin (hand graver), The term “bulino engraving†is used by some to describe a style of engraving scenes and figures popularized by contemporary Italian arms engravers. Italians usually call this type of engraving "puntini." This technique is executed using a finely pointed burin that is used to create very fine dot patterns. SCRIMSHAW – Scratching or cutting a shallow design into horn, bone, ivory, or a synthetic representing the aforementioned. Scrimshaw is done in a style that resembles line, banknote, or bulino style engraving on metal.
