Here's a border I invented by adding four cuts to the classic twisted rope border which is often done by the western engravers.

The first cut is just behind the peak of the twist, the next cut is the short split in the leaf, the third cut rounds the corner of the split, and the fourth cut scallops the edge of the leaf.

I've also taken a sculpting punch and textured the leaf, but not in this example.

oops...make that 5 cuts. I forgot the single shade line.

[edit] The rope was cut with a flat graver, and the rest with a 120.

Nice, neat, clean and fairly simple - once you get the rhythm down.

I tried it just now... don't think that it needs the sculpting punch? Looks fine as it is!

Brian

Nope, doesn't need it, but it gives a bit of texture.
Glad you like :)

I cut the rope with a flat graver, monk. The rest was done with a 120. Sorry I forgot to mention that. I'll add it to my post.

Well done Sam. Clever, simple, and quite stunning at least when you do it.
