any i ever made were made to fit the wrist of the lady wanting it. i used a piece of copper wire or heavy card stock to see the exact dimension wanted by the person. .25 - 1" in width seems to be the norm. the western style bracelets may be much larger. . for shape-- just go to the search button at page top. lots of bracelets have been sent to the forum over the years.

The human wrist is a funny piece of anatomy. I took one of my wife's cuff bracelets and traced it on a piece of paper to use as a guide. The bracelets I make are typically 1/2" wide and 6" long. I have a mandrel I bought to shape them, but have found it much easier to use 2 different diameter pipes (thanks to Brian Marshall) to get the larger radius and the smaller end curves. They typically fit somewhat loosely but that seems to be ok.

What size pipes are used?

Here's a pic of the setup I use... 2" 90 degree elbow for the base then 1 1/2" pipe nipple and 1" pipe nipple to shape the bracelet on.

I make a lot of tools to shape metal from hunks of tools steel I have laying around and old rr spikes. Although I have to admit I really like the above set up using the pipes as well. Thank you for posting that I'll have to make a set up like that and see how it goes for me. We are smack in middles or tourist season so selling a ton of simple bracelets.

Andrew, in one word - yes.

But about half can be done with strong fingers - and any necessary finishing touches can be added by whacking as the metal hardens.

IF you start with dead soft metal to begin with...

Brian

I also have a setup similar to Leonards as well as at least 4 more methods. All depends on the job... Sometimes a press is required.

With these pipe jigs to form bracelets........do you form the bracelet round the pipe by whacking it with a hammer???

As Brian said, yes. :) I use a weighted rawhide mallet and put painters tape over the silver to reduce the chance of marring it. Works pretty good for me.

tyvm for this. this sort of thing can be valuable to a newbie. it shows one can achieve without going broke. fittings as you show here, can be found at most junkyards for a buck or 2. they won't be squeeky clean like yours, but a bit of wet & dry would soon fix that.

those using the press dies: can this tooling produce the compound curve in the bracelet ? or just the single ?
