Some practice scrollwork...

I tried to get an evenly balanced design, but then messed up here and there. Some design flaws became very apparant whilst cutting, which I tried fixing on the fly.
My turntable was getting all "stiffed up" for some reason while I was cutting the outlines, so I made a new one. I think that a lot of the flat spots had to do with the table( that and lack of experience/control). Seems much better now...
Shading could be a whole lot better, but I feel it is getting slightly better.
Lots to improve in the next couple of years...

Keep in mind that you should keep your tool holding hand/wrist ridged otherwise if you rotate the vise and at the same time make turning movements with your wrist you WILL induce elbows. It is near impossible to combine the two movements uniformly. I catch myself doing this from time to time. Sometimes it works OK but mostly not.

I try to watch my posture and the way I hold my arms when graving, I do however catch myself pulling my arms into my body so to speak. This mostly result in me wanting to move my arm along with the vise. When I do notice I correct it as soon as possible, so I don't learn bad habits.
My turntable was starting to turn way to stiff, which resulted turning the vise in the rubber ring instead of the whole table. Didn't even notice it untill I found myself tilting the vise as a result. Made a new turntable which turns freely on a couple of bearings. Makes a world of difference.

First off, thanks for those with kind words and great advice. It is truly appreciated.

Then, I finished the plate off with a little "bright cut"(ahum) scrollwork in the corners. I feel it really finished it off nicely and makes the center pop a little more. I really like the contrast. I am not going to be shading the corner scrolls(I think), because I feel it might make it look messy.
Turntable truly made a difference and watching my posture carefully. Was playing with stroke lengths, but that only resulted in minor "runaways". It is just a practice plate, right?

Learned heaps with this one.
