I accepted a Victorinox Multitool to engrave a gentleman's name and a few "curly-ques" for a good pastor friend and have been regretting it ever since. Little did I know how HARD the metal is! Not only is it hard, it has soft/hard spots throughout the piece. It will cut beautifully for about 4-5mm and then break the tip, either hitting a hard spot or finding a hidden rivet. Either way, the tip will actually shatter, leaving a good sized chip in the face. I'm using a HSS graver with a 50 degree face, parallel heel and a dubbed tip. I figured a Carbalt or Cobalt graver would be too hard for the steel. Any way, if you're asked to engrave one of these......DON'T!!!!

Yip (for my Kiwi friend) and kinda makes you want to realign your brain cells, but not with anything illegal or weird, liquid or gaseous!
