no attempt to discredit your idea. for me, i wouldn't feel at all comfortable using this the way you show. i find the seated position works for me. my scope, adjustable positioning vise, all essential goodies needed, are placed on a cart that i can roll to anywhere i want. when done, i simply roll the beast back into its' stall .having said that, i do like your setup, it simply wouldn't work for me.

After viewing the clip, I couldn't possibly work in that position. Too many body parts to coordinate while moving about, plus keeping one's balance. Going through my books, I see the many engravers who were standing, mostly in the Old Country, and I wonder how many needed surgery to correct a nerve problem in the neck/shoulder like my barber did after many years of elevated arm/shoulder positioning in cutting hair. I prefer to sit, and move around from time to time. I've done standing tasks, and ergonomics aren't to be ignored in the tasks we do. May work well for some, but not me.

Carlos thanks for generously sharing your ideas. Quite interesting and informative. I admire your passion and enthusiasm for engraving. Stick with it, it will take you far in the long run, and your efforts will pay off and reward you for many years to come.

Thanks, this is not the first time I saw something like this.

Ron

Nothing is elevated, everything sits at the same working level as if I were sitting.

Going to work at it, if after some time I feel it's just not working, I'll go Palm control, so I can stand, something I did notice is that I move more, in other words I'm more active, instead of just sitting there and look through my desk for a tool, I actually take steps and just move.

Thanks all for looking

carlos: you see many colors on this project. the parts were painted to prevent rust. all parts are black now. looking at this you see a 1.5" LEAD SCREW and nut. a couple of flat steel plates. a 6 or so inch high piece of well casing, discarded bed frame pieces. when finished i found it a bit long, so cut it in half width wise. i then cut a 2"strip off each piece of angleiron, then re welded. i then thought it a bit wide, and again cut it in half lengthwise, removing a 2"PIECE OFF EACH OF THE IRON ANGLES, followed by rewelding. lots of xtra work, but now fits me perfectly. on the one side view you can see my demagnetizer,. there are those probably rolling on the floor looking at this. that's ok, as it works perfectly for me, and was produced almost for free, out of common junk parts.

Good job Carlos.
I was just listening to something on the radio. That most heart attacks, strokes and aneurysms come after a stint of two hrs or more sitting.
I've seen your pedal setup before too, old timer had his flex shaft pedal on the inside of his bench. Yours is more ergo tho. Course, only possible fr standing.

Carlos,
Read Chujybear's post above my post... It turns out gun engraving (sitting for long periods) is a larger health risk to me than both the USMC or working undercover as a cop.... it's just my luck.
