After 20 years of wanting one I finally broke down and bought myself a contender last week. The big thing that prevented me from buying one years ago was that nasty laser etched cat they had on the sides.

Anyway, the new Encore and G2 frames are nice and clean and have what look to be engravable surfaces.

Have any of you cut one of these? I have a few questions.

1. The factory finish is very dull. Will the action material take a good finish and blue well?

2. Does the material cut decently and inlay decently?

thanks,

Ray

Ray, Yes to both questions.
Being investment cast, I've found that you really can't get 'em to shine evenly.
I recommend 400-600 grit for the final finish.
Brownells Oxynate 7 does a nice job on the blueing.

Thanks Brian,

That is pretty much what I wanted to know. I wondered if I would be wasting my time trying to get a nice high grit hand rubbed finish on one.

I may just get myself one in stainless to engrave and leave my blued one alone. We'll see

Again thanks for the relating your experience,

Ray
