German translation : Das Graveur Leben
When I was at the engraving school in Suhl a few years ago, I made a copy of this picture drawn by an engraver over there, in 1984 apparently by the signature, so this was before the wall came down. But curiously enough the Engraver's Life in communist East Germany in 1984 does not appear to be so very different from many engraver's expereinces in present day America. The note attached to the ball and chain, "Zeit ist Geld" translated is "Time is Money"
Some interesting things there to notice, the small square pictures on the wall just below the coffee pot with the prominient black circles in them at various places... those are actually fun targets like you would use for air rifle practice. I sell similar ones in my airgun business today.
