Time to work on my drawing skills

Recently I have new eyeglasses and now realized I can draw without extra magnification. Sure that is luxury. By looking at Sam’s daily portraits, he made me want to start drawing portraits too. Then I realized starting with engraving designs would feed my drawing skills. And yes I know I have a long way to go, hopefully by adding frequently new designs they will show my progress
I have several unused MOLESKINE drawing books and as I prefer drawing at real they fit my needs.
You are welcome to criticize my drawings but that is something I can do by myself too. Like everything we do, next will be better isn’t it?

Looking good Arnuaud

If you're wanting to work on portraits, there are a couple of nice posts either here or on Steve's forums about facial proportions that one of the more artistic members did. Let me check my notes to see who....
Darn it, I don't have who did it noted. After I post this I'll do a search and come back if I find the thread.

Another suggestion is to play around with some hobo nickels - they're a good place to practice your faces.

Found it! It was Doc Mark who did the work for us - Click Here

Thanks Steve and Phil for the info on facial portraits.
I have several books on the subject already but it is my wish first to draw designs for engraving.
Before I started engraving, I wasn't able to draw, or at least the result of my drawings didn't please me.
Drawing scrolls gave me more self confidence, so that is where I should start.

Congratulations on your new eyeglasses and congratulations on your drawings. You're drawing like a pro! My favorite is the 3rd one which would be really beautiful engraved.

Thanks Sam, yes the fourth one is just crap, there is no real curve as only straight.
That third one I can engrave as I still have a blank knife for that one. Will be another challenge to shade those leaves I have never done before.
Here are some more sketches from today, still drawing at real size and it is getting better and better to control.

Will be another challenge to shade those leaves I have never done before.

Those wide leaves are challenging to shade. Good resources are Churchill and Ken Hunt. Also JM Bergling and Rudolph Kornbrath.

The loupes looks great! Maybe you could make a loupe case from Silver or Ti.

Yes Sam, they probably will, I know where to find the resources. Plenty around here and in my library. In fact most of it is already in my head, just need to let it out. ;)

Here is the last one for today. The one in the center I like the most. I only have a little compassion for the little flower

Thanks Tom for the encouraging words. yes the top left will be the hardest one to shade, that is another challenge.

I hope I'm not bothering you, my pleasure grows as I start drawing more accurate.
Here are two more today.
I'm still drawing small at real size, changed pencil HB into a H2.

That's amazing artwork! My God I'm really intimidated by the artwork aspect of this craft.

Love it, Arnaud. This is inspiring to see and your efforts should serve as encouragement to all engravers. We ALL need to draw more and you're showing that there's a nice reward at the end. Well done.

Hey Arnaud.

Loving the top 4 of those Loupes. I like how much variety you're getting in there. Mostly what I draw at the moment all comes out the same.

As Sam said I like the 3rd knife design. Reminds me a little of a SamW shotgun I saw a work in progress thread on designing. A glance at the outlines and it doesn't look like much, those leaves really shade quite magically though.

Thanks for sharing with us Arnaud.
