Transition style revisited

Is it the same style? I has no idea how to call it.
Engraved in 1985.

I think it is a very similar style of engraving Paul, however yours is more florid and complex in design. The few stainless steel Ruger shotguns I have engraved were too hard to execute this style without excessive tool breakage. Was the one pictured annealed prior to engraving?

All Ruger long guns were engraved before the heat treed process. Unfortunately the company is not practicing annealing on a sold guns, they are very careful for liability.

hi all
i agree with Chas.. a small tutorial or some pics of gravers would help a lot to understand, this style is really outstanding!! I know there s some grs classes about it, but unfortunatly not in Europe..

Apparently there is sufficient interest so I will put something together when I am able. I would love to see Ron Smith do the same as his style contains a greater variety of decorative elements than the way I have been doing it.
