The last foundry shop I worked in had a 6' x 8' x 2' thick black granite surface plate.
During the winter they would open the garage door for ventilation.
That slab of rock would get CCCOLD!
You could practically see the frosty air flowing down to the floor off of it.
Really sucked the heat out of you when you got close.
The boss wouldn't let me use a space heater even while working right next to it or even on it to make patterns.
I ended up covering it with multiple layers of cardboard just to insulate myself from it.
I didn't stay there long my arthritis couldn't take it.
