They look real nice.
However in my opinion and I have tested it, silver is not a metal to use for wedding rings, especially when they are engraved and fine shaded.
In no time the shading will wear of, same for the engraving itself. So after a few years it will look just like any other silver band. Same for textures on silver and so on.
So unless one get married every 5 years, another metal should be used. That is why Titanium and engraving do match so well.

How about that harder silver that is available? continuum or argentium & diecast (if you find it).
I would have thought most metals are problematic for ring engraving anyway since they take alot of wear.
I guess titanium/steel being the best options...otherwise you need deep stuff & forget the shading?

Paolo, same here and the request for silver wedding bands started years ago.
At first I thought what is going on, why do people want silver wedding bands. let me tell you,
It took me one year to find out that by asking for silver, they referred to the color, not the material.
They in fact are asking for white metal when talking about silver, that because they think gold is always yellow.

I is us goldsmith who know about the different materials, sure todays customers don't.

So next time when you have a customer asking for "silver" wedding bands, just ask him are you referring to the color? you will be surprised how many will say yes.

Yes Arnaud i always offer alternatives like white gold or pink, red, green ,ever i try to explain that exist a lot of ways, expecially because i don't offer s stock and ever are unique pieces, but i think is just a question of the price of the gold that is too high for some people, i have a friend that are doing rings in silver alloyed with palladium , he say that it give more hardness personally i haven't try it, but i will experiment in the future, i want try Ti too if i find finally a goid resource for it, my jewellery production is not very high for the moment, but i have bought a PUK for that.
But yes you are right a lot of time the customer don't know too much about that.

Paolo, yes you are right too. People just don't know about the different alloys, carat of gold, carat as the weight of precious stones and so on.
And to us all of that is obvious, but sure it is not.
Sure we have a world wide economic crisis and the gold price is high, so a lot young people buy silver. And silver use to be and still is the poor mans gold
So a certain percent of my customers know what they are asking for when they ask me to make silver wedding bands. But those are just a few.
Most of the time it they just refer to the color silver. And yes they want something unique, and the bands have to be wide and high profile, so heavy weight.
In fact they could afford white gold if it was the classical half round wedding band, wide 3.5 mm.

This is a good point, expecially for engravers/ jewelery designers, we have to try ever to "educate" the customer because exist a lot of confusion about our work, expecially if is done totally by hand.
The other question is that a lot of times people don't think that a wedding ring have to be dressed all the time and is a sort of investment for a lot of years ( of for life with luck hehe).
Usually i preferre ask to the customer to use old gold that they have at home and don't use to "transform" it in a new ring before sell a cheap silver ring, i will charge just my work and reduce the price, but in this way i know that the customer eill be more happy in the future having a more quality product.

I remember when you could buy gold wedding bands at Woolworths for ten bucks. Gold was $35 an oz. and you could fill your car with groceries for $50. The US dollar is losing ground everyday. I have worn a Black Hills wedding ring for more than 40 Years. !0k with rose and green gold grape leaves. When I divorced 15 years ago I put it on the other hand with some difficulty. Would have to cut it off with arthritis knuckles now. Only the liner cuts have faded in all this time and the grapes could use freshening with a punch dot tool. EX paid $90 for in Deadwood in 76, I was an apprentice at the time making half wages and money was tight tight. Worn 24/7 no matter what the job I was doing. A friend says he is going to cut my finger off with bolt cutters at the viewing when I go under. Fred
