I've been trying to find some 24k dead soft wire for inlay. I can't seem to locate any. Rio Grande only has 1/4 hard as the softest available. I only know to do an internet search to find a supply company and have had no good results. Can someone suggest another company to try ?
I only need less than a foot . And when I do find it, what's a good ,all purpose gauge to get ? And if I can't find it, can I anneal some harder stuff ?
Thanks in advance, Mark

Ri¼ hard is really soft to begin with, and Rio Grande sells their gold by the penny weight, so you will end up with more than a foot of wire. 26, 28 gage wire is what you are looking for. L39 had said earlier in the thread to soften the wire, heat it up and then quench it in water, I will disagree with the quench in water part, just let it air cool.o Grand has what you need, they are a great company to do business with.

In addition to Hoover and Strong you might talk to PM West in LA. Most refiners can supply you with most karats of gold, the question is more of a matter of economics in supplying the small quantities of 24 karat as 14, 18 and 10 karat are in greater demand.

I can say for a fact that Rio Grande keeps an on hand supply of this wire and have always had it when I needed it. Copper and fine silver along with Sterling on hand so fast shipping is a must. this is a full-time Jewelers supply company this is what they do they Supply the jewelry industry and carry grs tooling and many other tools. You should try having them send you a catalog I get two catalogs a year from them you'd be surprised at what you'll find it there.

excellent. store, I have done business with them in the past for tooling. Nice people to deal with. I tried hoover and ? but you have to show proof of business. It's not jewelry for me.
