I've almost given up on trying to get a Lindsay Vise; does anyone know if they still make vises? I'm probably going to buy a new GRS because they have never been in stock?

Lindsay's focus seems to be elsewhere lately. Every once in a while, some palmcontrol vises are up for sale. They always end up being sold as an auction on his instagram page though. Highest bidders get the few available. Have't seen the goliath up for sale for a while though

Lindsay engraving vises are all made individually by himself. Maybe he has some helpers I hope, and his wife keeps things in order. GRS has a very large plant using high tech machines, a staff of knowledgeable workers and sales people along with the training center which changed the face of learning to engrave.

I have a Lindsay palm control vise and it is a step above but not a high step. For me its a kind of perfection, especially when used with a palm control graver. But the problem is that Steve has a mind that doesn't sleep and he's always coming up with new ideas. He's incredibly gifted in machining everything. And it would be okay if there were the same amount of engravers as there was when he started but there has been a host of new engravers coming on. And they need tools and he probably can't keep up with demand. Steve is not a factory and his wife keeps track of everything but there is a limit to what can be made. Which can make it extremely frustrating to deal with in this age of want it now, need it now, get it now.

But that being said if I had to buy a block today it would from GRS because I'd have it and would be engraving with it in a few days. That's a huge plus. Give the GRS salespeople a call, tell them the block you would like have bought from Steve and let them sell you a comparative block. They know their stuff. The products will preform well for a long, long time.

Like the next post says, ask him your question, Steve is a superb machinist (and engraver), but superb engraving does not require a superb vise.

I have one if you’re interested. It’s brand new. Took out of the box and it’s been displayed only. Let me know.
