Simon's work, as yours, never ceases to amaze! This is some of the finest "bulino" on gold that I have ever seen. Does Simon inlay the gold in sheet form or wire? I know how difficult it is to inlay right up to a free edge and he did it masterfully.

Thanks all, I'll pass it on to Simon.

Mark, the inlay is with sheet, it's much quicker than wire especially over such large areas.

The problem with inlaying up to an edge is also added to after the gun is returned as I has to be hardened, and the trigger plate has to be in and out a few times when the action is put on the wood, if it's not done carefully and for instance twisted slightly when this is done, it can move the gold.

The other area of concern is around the cross pin where the leopard and lion are situated, a minute area of the steel has to be left here in case of future removal, I guess around 0.2mm.

Sam, it's good for work like this to come our way, it is however a bit of a problem ( when on a trip through Positano and Amalfi on a big bus, if you know the place you will know how narrow that coastal road is and the traffic situation, when someone said as we got stuck between a rock and a car, "What a problem" the guide said, "We don't have problems, just situations") when a customer wants gold around these areas, re my previous post

OMG I know that road well! One of the scariest bus rides I've ever had!

We do that nearly every year, it's best done on an excursion, which includes Positano, a hour and a half in Amalfi, then up into the hills to Ravello, now that's a lovely place, but not brilliant at night as there's maybe one or two restaurants, and dead as a Dodo in the winter.

Richard Branson has his Pink Palace Hotel there.
