Mini stones for hobo nickels...

I received my super mini stones from Chris DeCamillis last week. They're very nice; fast cutting and I think they'll last quite a while as they don't wear down quickly.

If you carve coins and don't have some yet, I highly recommend them and wouldn't want to do without them. You just rub away and the metal piles up all over from how fast they cut (of course when I say "piles" you realize I'm looking through a scope).

I used them on my last two nickles... Thank you to those who have recommended them! :tiphat:

I don't know if you can tell who the older gentleman character is supposed to be (he is someone specifically) but I'd be interested in knowing who anyone thinks he looks like.

Wow great work again Andros, and it's without any doubt it's Willie Nelson, I saw it right away without reading anything.
Very stricking portrait !!!
The other is beautyful as well.

Nice work Andros! Your coins are looking "cleaner" with each one. I too thought the old guy looks to be Willie Nelson.

Great... I appreciate all who chimed in... and your compliments too...

Sometimes when you stare at something so long, you no longer have the ability to discern if there are errors or if it even looks like the subject.

Arnaud, I hope you like them. I'd love to see a nickel from you!... I'd imagine the stones would also be helpful in cleaning up tight places in detailed pieces of jewelry too.

Roland, Good question... I've found that I like to use the lowest grit and the highest grit mostly. I purchased the 180 grit and 1000 grit (along with some inbetween grits) but wish I had purchased the 120 and 1200. You can use the more coarse grit for removing allot of metal, and the highest grit to clean up the surface after that. But, everyone has different preferences.

Thanks again for all the input!

I indeed thought the gentleman looked like Willie Nelson, but from a distance, before I went fullsize on the picture I thought it might be Liam Neeson. I love the way you do these coins. :)

Excuse me my ignorance, but what kind of stones are we talking about?

The stones are abrasive stones, somewhat similar to the moldmaker stones Gesswein sells but only 0.5mm square (and about 2 - 3" long). Very good for working in very detailed areas.

Thank you Monk & Steinar! Yes, the stones are very useful as Steve mentioned. They're from Chris DeCamillis' website.

You're welcome Roland!

Hi Kevin,

You're right! My apology's... The coin was Willie Nelson and the other one was a young lady (wearing a flapper hat) who has no name.

Cheers :beerchug:
