Painters tape or a good masking tape works really well, and doesn't leave residue on work surfaces. Painters tape or masking tape works well for me so no reason to try other tapes. Glue does not penetrate the tape so no worries there.
Machinists using a similar technique apply painters tape to the back of the work object, in this case a practice plate, and painters tape to the surface to which the 'practice plate is affixed. Super glue is then applied to the back side of the plate, and over the outward facing mounting surface...
Keep in mind, that the value to to customer (perceived value) is the finished product itself. The chargeable perceived value is the sum total of what the finished product represents to the customer, and has nothing to do the amount time spent on a product.
The table (or any work for that...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since the inlay appears to be raised, the most direct way to accomplish this is to first inlay deeply into very precisely precut channels, and then to very precisely cut away the margins just enough to raise the inlay above the surface of the bedding metal.
Hello Ralf,
Set up my engraving bench today in the new workshop here in San Leon, Texas.
There is a large drain plug on the bottom of my Jun-Air 6-25. Didn't take a snapshot, but it's right at the bottom of the tank, pretty large, about 2.5" (6.4CM), and I thought..." well, this kind of looks...
Great looking piece! One suggestion, if you’re thinking about doing this as a pendant (for production), sign it, have a bail attached, get a mold made and have it cast in sterling.
Great post, Allan. Since this is likely to be something I will need to do periodically, I think what I'll do is invest in a wooden stool, cut a 4" diameter hole in the center, rest the Junair on top of it with the drain centered over the hole, and remove the plug from the bottom draining into a...
Thanks to everyone for the help. Wish I had a picture of the plug. It's literally on the very bottom in the middle of the tank, and I'm concerned that if I tip the machine too far to one side or the other, oil will go where it shouldn't.
I'll see if I can get a snapshot and post it tomorrow.
I've got an old Junair 25L, model number 1452000. Had it since 2006. Moved it recently and heard water sloshing around in the air tank. There's a large drain plug on the very bottom, but I don't think it's been off since the compressor went into service when it was brand new.
The compressor...
Generally speaking, a Form 4473 is necessary for firearms transfers when someone has purchased a firearm from an FFL licensed dealer, or has acquired or purchased firearms shipped from a dealer in another state, or from an unlicensed person in another state, or in the same state for a non-face...
Was able to get decent transfers using Oreilly Auto Brake and Carb cleaner as a solvent, but it often took several tries. Metal has to be absolutely clean. Not worth the time and aggravation though. Finally gave up on using the Brother for transfers and ended up buying a Canon Copier.
Depends on what you're using to tumble. Vibratory tumblers with steel shot are going to peen the metal and can create orange peel, especially with soft metal like 24K. The softer the metal, the more pronounced the peening.
Tumbling is fine for removing metal for a more refined finish or for...
I see real promise in your work. That being said, before you are producing anything you intend to engrave, you need good professional study materials and instruction.
When I was learning to draw scrolls, the best thing I did was going to https://www.engraving-videos.com where I purchased, and...
