Messed up and got one of them amazon vises starting out, was stuck with it for a while. When trying to tighten on anything just before it would be snug one side would kick up just enough to be a headache. Game changer to have a properly made one, worth every penny. Have a great weekend. BB
Welcome Ioan,
Sounds like you intend on getting some equipment and diving into some projects. It can be a little expensive getting started if you’re wanting a good pneumatic setup. Might I suggest starting with some blank bits and work on sharpening up a few gravers, just a good place to start...
Thank you sir, I appreciate that and am glad the background reflects the extra time put in. 2nd attempt at cross hatch background and thought it would go faster and be more consistent than stippling… only the latter turned out to be true.
Good evening to all,
Well I’ve officially stared at this too long haha and just finished the shading.
This knife started as an exercise in design… I had it mounted in the block for a few months trying desperately to come up with a decent design, well that never happened.
Finally just penciled...
Good evening V150super,
Really like the design and execution. All your shade lines are super clean and very pleasing, the balance of light and dark is spot on. Have a good one.
Thank you so much Sam for all you contribute to further understanding of this fine art. Can't wait for the mailman to deliver another great practice project. Have a great week. BB
Good evening Vondershred, wonderful first plate…. Capybara no question so put that in the win column. quite sure not everyones first animal was identifiable. Keep it up and have a great week. BB
Good evening Always, looks like good subject matter for practice, maybe cut that same layout 3 or 4 times over
Try to slow down and focus each cut as your following your transfer. Pay close attention to the slightest variation once you are committing to a curve….. Unsure if this is a coherent...
Welcome Vondershred, glad to have you aboard.
Ill follow suit and answer one question, books and tutorials…
Book, Ron Smith’s Advance drawing of scrolls
Tutorial, Sam’s DVDs or downloads
Both have been priceless and I feel we are very lucky to have these resources available to all who seek...
Good evening Jess, just a thought…. Is your auxiliary knob opened up? This bypasses the foot pedal needing to be pressed and give the hand piece constant air as though the foot pedal is pressed in….. couldn’t hurt to check
Welcome Jessberry, glad to have you in the group. Here’s a picture of when my 901 hand piece becomes quite and happy give and take every time you turn it on slight adjustments should be made. Hope you get it running and start having fun. BB
Good evening Always learning,
Been watching both your threads and wanted to throw a couple of things out at once.
Firstly your practice plate in Steel, maybe as someone previously stated take a step back and practice on a softer metal, copper was a wonderful teacher for both graver control and...
Good morning Gunsmith, Your work is coming along nicely. your borders look good and are pretty consistent. Might I suggest you examine and visualize how your knobs ending, examine other scrolls to see what i mean.
You currently just have one solid line placed in the middle of all four knobs...
Welcome SiyuanZ, glad you found this community that can be overwhelmingly helpful and encouraging to any who seeks it. Hope to see more of your work. You have a wonderful week. BB
Good evening Gentlemen,
Sam I would like you to know that through your videos I sincerely consider you my teacher and very much value the available resources you have made available for all who seek it, so thank you.
Now then the Lynton McKenise DVD‘s were one of the last videos i was missing...
