Great! I'm excited to give these a watch. Haven't gotten to yet, we've got some family in town visiting but as soon as they leave I'm digging in to it!
I was just gifted the Lynton Mckenzie VHS set from a good friend of mine. Hes now a retired jeweler but always planned to learn engraving years ago when he bought these tapes. I had a question though, these tapes are a set of 3 beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Are these the same as the...
I'll throw my 2 cents out there. I've been using beard wax and graphite powder and it works well too. The beard wax I have is thick tacky stuff. Holds an image well. I've also used the sut soot? From a blackening lamp too with success. Good luck!
Just realized you've been around for a while Deazyner so you probably got to see the forum active when it was fairly new, exciting and fresh in engravers minds. I've only been around learning the art for the past 6 or 7 Months I think so my opinion isn't very valuable on the subject.
I agree, I think a lot of it is the time. For me just trying to work my 9-5 and trying to engrave is tough. Some days I can get an hour in here and there but I rarely get to sit down for a few hours but maybe a day a week, 2 if I'm lucky. I'm happy Layne Z. Started his channel because it really...
Oh and as for the Facebook group Sam runs. Is it a forum style group? Like with Archived tips and helpful posts? Or is it just a group that shares pics mostly and occasional tips/ instruction? Just want to make sure I'm not missing out on anything
I agree, It seems like everyone used to be more involved and do some fun little projects that included users. I saw a post recently where Sam A. Sketched out a leaf outline and wanted to see how others would shade the same leaf. I thought that was a really cool idea. Even if something similar to...
Wow what a collection you've made yourself! That's most impressive. I've seen your work as well and the quality of your craftmenship even shows in these punches. They look manufactured they are so clean. Thanks for sharing, I'm really surprised no one else commented on this thread! You have more...
Hey Sam I had a quick question, I've been learning engraving since October and just recently started to dip my toes in some sculpting work. I've got your DVD tutorial on jewelry engraving and I'm working on the piece you demonstrated the sculpting portion on. Engraved the outline, deeply...
Hey Marcus is there still any way to get a copy of the DVD or book? Or both? . I've tried the website but it must be offline or something because I can't reach it. Let me know when you get this and Thank you!
Been looking a couple days and tried to contact Marcus on Instagram but not sure he's very active on there. Anyone know of any way to still get Marcus's book or dvd I'd be greatly appreciative. Or any other published material on english scroll I should look for? Thanks in advance
Your work is absolutely beautiful by the way! Your watches were some of the first photos I saw of high quality engraving and that's what sparked my interest in hand engraving to begin with. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Bram, we're there once photos that go along with this article on elnglish scroll? I don't see any attachments now so maybe they disappeared? Any chance you would take the time to re-upload the pics? It's very well written and I just wish I had a reference to go along with the text. Thank you!
Hey Andrew I've asked a couple people for any help or tips on different brushes/pens with no reply yet. I don't have an issue with initial sketch or outlining really but the shading is what I'm having a tough time with. My strokes just look like pen ink and can't get the thick to thin blended...
Sam would you ever share your brush settings? I got an iPad recently and have been having some fun but the shading is what I'm having a tough time with. I can't get a good taper/blend to create the dark areas fluidly. After your initial sketch do you use an inking type pen/brush? Or a heavier...
