Layering in Procreate makes fixes a whole lot easier. While I was drawing I figured that when cutting the parallel lines of the vines that I should cut one and scribe the other from the first to assure parallel.
Admittedly I spent a lot of time on the shading design but after reading Ron Smith’s book and looking at other designs from Sam, Phil and others I realized that shading is critical to black leaf. So I thought I had better practice getting the 3D effect.

This is my take on black leaf design. Not sure that it actually qualifies as black leaf or if the design is pleasing to others. What does or doesn’t look right?

I recently picked up a 1st gen that has already been devalued and poorly plated. Looks more like chrome than nickel. I got it cheaper than a gen2. I assume in that case it would be ok to strip, polish and engrave it?

Thank you again Lee for your help. I wish I had a fraction of your talent. With either a graver or pencil. I did my best to follow your advice. I need to either learn how to do better paws or better grass. Still a work in progress but hopefully better than my last post. Pics are with and...
I agree with Sam. #1 and #4 are best. #1 is either slightly humped at 12:00 or slightly flat between 1:00 and 2:00. #4 is really good and the only thing I can see is that the line is slightly thicker at the 12:00 position but I am stretching to find something wrong with it. Over all very...
Thanks Dave and John. I think I am ready to call it done. I’m sure there will be tweaks along the way but this is about as far as I can take it for now.
I also need to thank everyone for your help and advice. I remember it was not too long ago when I claimed to be self taught. What a...
Thanks for the encouragement and votes of confidence but I was still not happy with the muscle shading. I’m not trying to draw it out but I only have one chance on metal and many chances on paper. I think this is better.
Wheuu,, so when cutting should I cut shading first and then spots? I think I could get better shading that way but was afraid the spots might look ‘placed’.
