I can say for a fact that Rio Grande keeps an on hand supply of this wire and have always had it when I needed it. Copper and fine silver along with Sterling on hand so fast shipping is a must. this is a full-time Jewelers supply company this is what they do they Supply the jewelry industry and...
Ri¼ hard is really soft to begin with, and Rio Grande sells their gold by the penny weight, so you will end up with more than a foot of wire. 26, 28 gage wire is what you are looking for. L39 had said earlier in the thread to soften the wire, heat it up and then quench it in water, I will...
Thank you Papart1, I have know idea about a crimped spring, I wonder can the metal that was pressed over the spring be lifted enough to release the end of the spring? or you may have to cut the metal away and restake the spring during reassembly. However, make sure that you can move the metal...
I have 2 cents to put in on this. It is my experience that many pistol barrels are pressed into the receiver of the pistol with a broch press, often they are a negative fit, in other words the barrel is a few .0002 larger than the hole in the receiver that it is pressed it to. Then the barrel...
Holy cow Sam, talk about bringing out the who’s who in the engraving world on this thread. I can’t wait to try this out myself, as soon as I get my smith back from grs 100,000,000 stroke tune up.
Jan every time I watch you work; I learn so much from you. Your saw work on this video opened my eyes to so many new ways of doing things, I will have to watch this vid. At least 5 more times.
I wholeheartedly agree with Dave, using a drill press is a rather cost friendly way to approach the problem. I have tried the vise shelf and found it to be lacking in fine adjustments and it is time consuming to make adjustments to the stand, vibrations are a problem with the vise stand to. Or...
Work is simple elegant and concise nice job. Now get a good knife then do the same thing. I too often put lipstick on a pig and think it's going to turn into a monster cup supermodel. Haha but for real good job
Holy cow I was told once to be careful about what you wish for. I guess you found out the hard way. In other words it's time to make hay while the sun is shining.
I have tried to use the stippling with wire. It seems marginally to work. I am thinking a more random stipell pattern may hold the wire better or I may not be placing a heavy enough stipple on the work? I saw this on the master engraver chanelle on u-tube. I am most certainly not done trying...
Dam I kinda like the one on the right. Go figure I'm always against the grain. P.s. all truth be told I would be happy to have either one of them on one one my guns.
Yes I am. And the more area of your work that is in contact with the vise the less the vibration that can be transmitted back into your graverbit. Ie the longer your graver life will be. I did not ask what type of vise you are using either. If it is a knock off you will be encouraging other...
I'm thinking you don't have enough of the back your plate against the vice in other words your clamp is way spread apart and there's very little the back of the vibration. I found that I put a slight anel on my pens with a file the whole flat surface as a wedge facing down for device. That...
I have been using beeswax mixed with graphite melted to gather for layout. I put paint mixing sticks aginst the vise jaws. It let's the work piece bite the wood and helps to hold the work tight without damaging it.
