I'd like to recommend two websites for new engravers to look into for basic information.
The first is engravingglossary.com This is a separate part of Steve Lindsay's forum website but with its own address.
The engraving glossary was compiled by Roger Bleile, who is active on this forum. Its...
That's just a wonderful piece of work and it was great to see the process it went through to completion. Love the gold inlay in the pick and the border especially.
This is one of those times when the empty space is very powerful and puts the focus on the guitar pick and the gratitude behind...
Its a good time to think about becoming a pledge member or renewing your pledge membership. It takes time to manage the engravers cafe when this type of crap happens, which means it takes time away from the normal ways to earn money; and that's in addition to the normal running fees. It doesn't...
Also notice the elevation of the cut. For me chatter comes when I don't hold the tool level enough. So the chatter comes when it goes a shade too deep, forms a tiny wall and then bounces over the cut to go too deep again. For me that's the cause of chatter.
I notice this when I'm cutting...
"Fascinating to learn about the watercolor. That does make sense, but I would have expected something else, like a transfer of some kind."
The watercolor is used when hand drawing letters on the piece. But most engravers probably do use a transfer technique. For me I use an inkjet printer and...
Well okay, here goes. This is going to be a bit long.

The pen script font is made of various parts that have a uniform structure. So the ascender swashes of the l's and b's should look close to identical, the lower case stems are of niform width and are they are slanted at the same angle and...
Not pointless to do that and we should work to the highest levels of our abilities. And there are times you have to just do the engraving you have in mind just to see how it turns out. Your experience may be totally different from mine.
But Mitch is right. I do jewelry engraving and we very...
Most of the time its the amount of wear any piece of jewelry receives. For example, a wedding ring that is removed very often will wear the inside engraving more than one that is never taken off.
In the case of something like a pendant, charm or bracelet ( if its cut deep enough ) its not the...
td, you are partially correct, at least in jewelry or small object engraving. When I started engraving, there were only push tools and sharpening tools was an art form. The first year was learning to do nothing but controlling the tool as it cut. Line after line after line.
On a curve the...
There are a lot of beautiful engravings shown on the cafe, but this one really stands out for me. The scroll work, portrait and lettering just blend together so well. The lettering especially is so wonderfully done. It sounds crazy but I'm drawn to the lack of a serif on the top left of the N in...
Repairing pipes. Glad I don't have to do that anymore. Sometimes I think I used to repair pipes ( sometimes paid to have some pipes repaired ) only to get them ready to freeze over the coming winter. And I really wasn't that good at it.

sorry but that's Chris DeCamillis. He has a wonderful bulino video avaliable from Tira Mitchell's site - engraver.com
There are also nice bulino videos on youtube. There is one from Thierry Duguet where he is engraving a lioness and cubs and there is section of him engraving eyes.

Thanks for letting us know. Computer - printer problems can be the height of frustration. I had a problem with a software program, wouldn't work even though it was very dependable for a few years. I sent an email looking for an answer and the reply was " turn off, turn on, live long and...
The way it was explained to me, the printer is actually a mechanical device. If it prints on regular inkjet paper, then it should print on anything fed through the paper feeder. If it doesn't print on anything then the problem may not be the ink but what happened when the ink was installed.
So...
Its clear that those lessons from John B. really stayed with you . The drawing is really well done. Hard to do those celtic knots well, a little less precision and the whole design falls apart. The engraving looks great.
The only suggestion I have is to go back and make sure all your lines are...
