I will replace the steel tusks with platinum then I can move on to engraving the rest of the gun. This took 238 hours. Customer visited today and is much pleased!
Johnson's floor wax does indeed last. I waxed a car many years ago with it. Hard work....but water still beaded up on it a year later. You reminded me...I think I have a book on patinas around here somewhere.
I normally touch up the marred stippling by redoing with a sharp scribe held like a pencil and hand stippling. Usually goes fast when just touching up an area, hitting the marred areas.
Here is an update photo. Once I am satisfied with the sculpting on the elephant I will be able to do all the fine detail, on the elephant as well as background. I am 175 hours into it now.

Yes, all the animals are sculpted. The elephant the deepest with lots more to do on it before detailing. There will be background foliage and clouds around the elephant.
