What is a good printer setup for doing transfers on to metal?

This is what has worked for me. Canon MF230 for acetone transfers HP Deskjet 3700 when using Tom White's transfer sheets. Here is one problem I have found, manufactures change things in the ink and what worked last time wont work down the road and it can be very frustrating.

Thank you to everyone who helped put on the FEGA show

This was my first year having a table and I was a bit intimidated to show up with only a few items but everyone really made me feel welcome. I would like to specifically thank Tom Harvey, Steve Fiddler and Dean Philbrick, my table was close to theirs and they really made me feel part of the...

First time doing gold lettering inlay.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, up to this point I had only inlaid straight lines using copper.

    Casting Help

Wade, are you saying you start pouring the resin to the side of the mold?

    Scrimshaw/Bulino?

Bulino by nature is somewhat hard to see, you have to get the angle of the light just right for the image to show well. Using lines helps with this but that just is what it is.

    Casting Help

I have made an example plate that I plan on showing at the FEGA show this year. I had a few people ask about castings so I thought I would take a shot at making them and it's been a little frustrating. This is my first time making a casting and the results are less than desirable. I used...

    Coloring techniques??

Looking at his Insta, it looks like gold and copper inlay to me. Hopefully someone better than I can look at it and determine what it is.

    Draw File

Can anybody recommend a draw file like the one used by Mike in his tutorial? I looked at Brownells site and did not see one like Mike had in his tutorial. I contacted Brownells but have not had a response. I have not used a draw file before so I don't really know what I am looking for but I know...

Gravermax vs. Air Graver vs. Pulse Graver...or should i get all three>

I depends on what work you want to do, they all have their place. It would be best if you can find someone local and try theirs. I live close to Lee Griffiths, he let my try his Pulse Graver and GraverMach AT. They were both good machines but I ordered the GraverMach AT that day. I am sure...

    Case knife WIP

Working on this Case knife with a bulino English Pointer. I have a few flat spots on my scrolls, I didn't scribe my transfer lines and lost sight of the line as I was turning. Lesson learned, don't try to cut corners for the sake of saving a little time.

    Stepping up from practice plates

thank you for your suggestion, I have done a few knives but they are mostly flat. I was looking for recommendations on inexpensive items with complex shapes and contours. JJ suggested pipe so I think I will work on that for a while.

    Thank you to Mr. Zuelke

I second Layne, I have reached out to him with a few questions here and there and he has always been very helpful. In fact, quite a few of the masters have been very helpful and encouraging. That is truly one of my favorite things about this community, most everyone is helpful and encouraging.

    Unconventional Ornament

Very cool and thanks for sharing. I always like to see others people work, especially when it uses out of the box thinking. We have all seen a million scrolls on knives and guns. I have actually considered making a set of playing cards, but coming up with my own designs to embellish the cards.

    Stepping up from practice plates

Matthew, Thanks, I have seen some small double barrel derringers that are pretty neat looking. I don't really have a preference on what guns I engrave.

    Stepping up from practice plates

My goal is to eventually engrave guns. I am ready to move on from flat practice plates and step up to complex areas and surfaces that are common on guns but not quite ready to attempt a gun. I have seen on eBay you can get random gun parts (trigger housings, hammers and other various parts)...
