Richard,Restoring that 1873 Winchester would be real challenge,I believe its beyond any hope of ever looking like it once did. J.J.
I wonder if there's a way to determine how long that gun has been sitting there. Has it been there since 1873 or since 1943?

If it does indeed have ammo in the magazine I would think that might give at least a small clue. BP or smokeless, etc.
The rifle's brass cartridge lifter appears to be missing. The only way for that to happen is for the rifle to be disassembled then put back together without the lifter. Without the lifter, the rifle will only function as a single shot by loading a cartridge in the chamber one at a time. All of you cowboy action shooters that use '73s know what I am referring to.
