I hesitate to post this since it's not an engraving topic, but I just can't help myself. If anyone is considering a new cell phone, I highly recommend the iPhone. It's simply the most fantastic example of technological wizardry I've ever seen. It's an incredible piece of hardware and software engineering, and worth every penny. / ~Sam

I will agree with you Sam that they have come come out with a cool phone but I just can't see paying up to $2000 a year for service.

Sam & Abigail, You guys sound like my wife and I. I love new gadjets. But I can & Will get in trouble if I get something and it's not exactly like I thought it was going to be and it costs momma more money. She's been hard on me since we were kids. But I can't gripe, if it wasn't for her I never would've made it out of high school. She did all my homework and she's still bailing me out today after 25 yrs of marriage. By the way, I want one of those iphones. :D Dwayne

Another gadget guy here!

The ever-indulgent wife was pondering if we wanted to get me an iPhone to replace my Treo700p. I explained to her that it's not, for quite a few reasons (current contract being one of them).

There's an article floating around with a head to head comparison and overall the Treo just barely wins in an out of the box comparison. A lot of it has to do with the fact that the Treo has both a touchscreen and real keys / buttons - especially important if you're using it as a phone (I know, how gauche!). To hang up a call on a Treo you hit a button - something you can do without looking. With the iPhone you have to select the phone, then select 'hang up' and all on a touch screen you must look at. There are a few other little things that aren't quite there yet.

Bottom line; if you can afford it and don't currently have a smartphone - or just can really afford it, the iPhone's not bad (except maybe as an actual phone). iPhone V2 should be much better and V3 is definitely going to rock (but may still be not so good as phone unless they add a few buttons).

I remember when the first SmartPhones came out. It took a long time before any of them worked as both phone and PDA. They all did poorly at one or the other and most didn't too well at either. The iPhone is the first 'phone / digital media device' combo and seems to have revived the tradition of having a little problem doing it all.

You know, what they need to do is offer an iPhone without the phone part (just a data only connection). That would be cool!

The best thing is it's like a clean slate- all that flat open space, just begging for some nice scrollwork.

Is it true you have to pay for two subscriptions for it to work- AT&T and iTunes?

I want to see the hand engraved skin for it when it's done. I think a $600 phone should have a custom designed cover.

Monk,
LOL LOL LOL
I can't say much. ;) I like gadgets just as much as he does. My latest is the new Nintendo Wii. I have boxed and played tennis so much in the living room that I have tendonitis in my right middle deltoid. OUCH. The sports games are a blast...PLUS you get exercise.:)

Sam I was watching the Today show when they where showing the phone. I thought they said that the activation fee for the phone was really high.

Kulley: It's $36 to activate, which is the same as any other ATT/Cingular phone. Activation is done via iTunes and there's nothing that's done at the counter in a store.

I'm not sure, but I think it's the same activation fee.

After seeing and using this incredible piece of engineering, I predict more and more people will migrate to Apple computers.
