Hell Sam, I have a suggestion. I receive a lot of calls and e-mails from customers wanting engraving work, and because of the amount of gunsmith work that I have to do, it would be years before I could help them. I don't know who to send them to. So I just thought wouldn't it be nice if there was a type of a bulliton board that engravers could list them selves, stateing they were accepting new work. Then the potential customer could pick and choose go to their web site look at their work, make contact. What do you think?

Hi Ed. I suppose we could do something like that. Let's see what kind of response we get to your post.

Sam, i turn almost all work down when a customer wants a lot of lettering engraved on a carved coin, i dislike lettering and would like to pass some work on to someone who wants it, they would have to carve the coin to get the lettering work or work with a coin carver jointly...

I think that it would be very benefitial. At this point, an over run of engraving work is not an issue, but, I am finding that as engravers we are asked to do many things that are not in our fields of expertise, in my case repairing jewelry is the job I refuse the most. It would help in customer relations to be able to refer them to a qualified professional, or, if I ever did have a problem with to much work, I think customers would appreciate being given another avenue, rather than hearing a simple "no, can't do it!". It would also give us unknown engravers the chance to get the ball rolling on our careers, by getting the opertunity to do jobs we would otherwise never would have had the chance to do. Brian

Sam,

Sounds like a good idea to me. Though many of the folks here are also represented on the FEGA website I realize that some engravers are not FEGA members so, perhaps an area listing what we do, our individual strengths & preferred styles, areas of expertise etc... would be helpful for us as engravers as well as beneficial for a potential client. Just a thought or two!

Thanks,
Weldon

I think it's a great idea. You have to remember Weldon that not all engravers specialize in firearms or knives so won't be catered for by FEGA, so a BBS that puts potential clients in touch with an engraver would be a wonderful idea.

Great Idea,
There are few opportunities, for a beginner like myself, to get my feet wet.

PS. The Engraver's Cafe may want to post a disclaimer...
