Hi Greg, The buckle really came out beautiful, a lot of work goes into those, I really like how clean you made the overlays and the background, your silver brazing is top notch, the brightcutting has a real sparkle.
creations such as this really make a statement.

Thanks for the posting!

Thanks to you all for your wonderful compliments, I am sincerely encouraged by them. Thank you!

Shawn~ After I cut the ties I polish the piece. First I polish the back and sides with a yellow tight weave muslin wheel with bobbing compound. I then polish the front with a bristle brush wheel using bobbing compound while applying light pressure. I then send it through the ultrasonic for a cleaning. I then follow that with white diamond 4X compound using a loose weave muslin wheel on the back, sides and front. Send through the ultrasonic again. Engraving and matting are next. I then do a light final polish with red rouge and a rouge wheel to bring the buckle to its final high polished lustre. Wash in ultrasonic, steam clean and then give to customer.

Greg,

Very nice indeed, top notch from start to finish. This is the type/quality of work that I'm setting a goal for myself to achieve someday. If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been doing this type of work?

Webad~ I got started in September 1977 working for The Ed Jones Company, general engravers. Their main thrust of business was producing police, fire protection & security badges. They were founded in 1899 and are still in business today. If you would like to check it out, here is the link.

Hi Greg Thank-You for sharing such a beautiful Buckle set. Your design and execution is absolutly flawless in my opinion. I would like to try to make a buckle set for myself, are the measurements of the openings in the belt loops nad the end piece pretty standard or do I have to buy the belt first?

Greg,
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. The buckle set is fantastic, but I'm even more impressed by your pictures. I know from experience how hard it is to take a picture of engraved sterling. You nailed this one. Best wishes.

Ray, Sam & Stewart~ Thank you so much, I am truely grateful for your gracious comments!

David~ Thank you for the compliment! If you have a belt that measures one inch wide for example, the following are the dimensions which I use as a standard. Belt buckle opening is to be 1 1/32" wide. The inside dimensions of the loop or "keeper" is to measure 1 1/32" wide by 1/2" high. The tip is to be a 1" outside dimension at its greatest width and the inside dimension of the tip heighth is to be 5/32". These dimensions are for quality dress belts and not for bridles and straps with buck stitching or extra tall applied overlays on the tip, etc.

Best regards,
Greg Pauline

Greg, What are you stippiling with? Do you use a differnt point up close to overlays or the same tool? Maybe some pics of the tools and a little info. Your overlays are so clean around the edges and mine are not that clean . I was just worndering if a diffirent tool would help.
Thank You, Robert

P.S. Can I come sleep in your shop for about six months?
