Phil, That is fantastic. My grandfather built live steam 1/32 scale (I think) trains. You sit on the coal car (alcohol) and drove them around track in the yard. He did all the machining from real blue prints. Made all the patterns for the castings. Had three and a half done at the time of his death. Had built steam calipees and other carnival modeling and circus trains all scratch built.Just sold them all. I have a good friend who has an English countryside model railroad that takes up a 28 by 74 double wide mobile home. It is the tradition English garden railroad but indoors. He also has a glass top coffee table done in Z gauge railroad out of Germany. I think that is the smallest of the model railroads. In Colorado is a rail station to take the live steam to drive them around. My grand father did nothing in the scenery end of things. but My friend does that. He has become a professional architectural model maker over the last ten years. building for film and commercial marketing presentation. Yours is wonderful. they can just take up so much room. I used to subscribe to garden railroad magazine out of England hopping to generate the desire to carry on but never did. His passion is where I acquired all my machine shop equipment. Maybe someday? Love it. Your passions just never stop amazing me. I wish I could come visit you.Fred

Phil,

I knew I liked you for more than your engraving skills. I got in to "N" gauge model railroading years ago , mainly for the chance of doing the scenery. I really enjoyed creating mountain tableaus, scratch building factories etc. I never got into the details of hand laying my own track, as you did. Unfortunately, it eventually came down to either having a dedicated engraving bench in my garage or keeping the old layout. So I found a good home for the layout (and made a few bucks on it) and now I have a real engraving bench with room for all the toys that go along.
