in the land of Scrolls,
Engravers that know me, know I'm into scroll. Have studied it all over the world in many different variations , formats and applications from woodcarving and mosaics to cave drawings. Got a fair collection of it both real objects and photographs. Not exactly a slouch in designing it and executing it either if I do say so myself ;^)

Enter my son, 11 years old, Forrest Pilkington, who came home yesterday and annouced that he had won a district art contest at his school that covered a number of other schools at the fifth grade level and it is now entered in a statewide competition. So I was proud; that was cool. I had'nt seen the art yet, since he had done it at school and it was on display at the competition till today. When I saw it was amazed! I'm not much for modern art, but take a look at this, There are scrolls in there! Is that cool or what?

One proud papa!

PS: Yes that's a First Place ribbon up in the corner that looks almost like it's part of the picture.

Hi Scott

We have a saying over here..........."the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"

Congratulations to you and your son. It's always great to see your kids achieve something.

You should be proud Scott that's very good. It has somewhat of a Peter Max style.
Good job Forrest. Maybe you can teach your Dad something about art. Then again maybe not, you can't teach an old dog new tricks:)
Keep up the good work kid.

Very nicely done! Encourage Him I suspect great things could come from that kind of talent in one so young.

wonderful to the max. my 7 year old grandson draws scroll, but nothing ever that large.we both do scroll at the eat n park with crayons on back of the place mat ! your son did that painting from the right side of the brain ! he wasn't looking at anything when he did that! that's where the real stuff comes from.

Hey Forrest, congratulations! Better hide that painting when we're there. Abigail loves color schemes like this.

That is cool. I agree it has a definite Peter Max style to it.

Hello Scott, That is a great picture. You know, my daughter is a art major at LSU as well, But this picture reminds me of an art contest she entered when she was a child. Her work work thrown out because the judges said she had to have traced it from another picture. But she did not. Isn't that funny. Hope things are going well for you.
