ID your Gravers

This may be old news, everyone has ways to ID their gravers...
I started using a short piece heat shrink in diffrent colors and writing info on them...
The shrink also gives some rest for your finger...
Have some fun this Summer, 90+ in humid Florida...

Scott pilkington showed me another option at a GRS course in Emporia. You can buy some silicone rubber fuel line for model airplanes or cars. I have found it in several colors in diameters that fit a 3/32 graver nicely. Just slip the tubing off for sharpening. The flexibility of this tubing offers nice cushioning from those sharp graver edges(they can be dulled with a silicone rubber/silicon carbide wheel mounted in a flex shaft.)

I use the old-school method of picking up every graver on my bench until I locate the one I need.

Do you throw them on the floor and swear at them to demagnetize at the same time? I'm afraid that's why I use mostly 90 degree gravers as I have so many it is easy to keep track of them. I bought the shrink tubing years ago but it still sits in my drawer.

He used a plastic drill bit stop ring for telling the differance. You can wright on them with a sharpe

I use Sam's method for finding the right graver. Strange, the one that I want is always the last one I look at.

Sometimes people forget what they are looking for in the first place. I mean..."other" people, not Sam ofcourse.

My gravers are so experienced, I whistle and call their name and they stand right up.Ha ha, My technique is more like Sam's. I seem to know where to look when I lay one down (sort of), but my desk when I am working looks like a train wreck. I always figured that if a guy has a **** and span bench, he doesn't have much to do...If I lose complete control, I call my wife in, and tell her what I lost. She is like a blood hound and she says, so very sweetly,usually right away,"oh, here it is"...I then go back to work. .........Ron S
