Inlay question

How do you cut a channel in a stone, ie, ruby, onyx, jade, etc. So you can inlay gold or silver wire?

i think that very fine diamond dental burrs would work. you'd need a very, very steady hand to do this.

The finest dental burs are only 1/4 mm. They would be sufficient but are very hard to obtain.

If you spin a small carbide bur in a turbine handpiece on the diamond wheel you can get it to a sharp point. If you then lightly drag it across the wheel holding it down at the same angle you will create a small flat on one side. This is like a 'D' bit in engineering.
This should be fine enough to do minute undercuts if your hand is steady enough. Good luck.
